SONG LYRICS

Worship lyrics projection software that keeps up with the band

Store your songs once, split them into verses and choruses, and OpenMico turns them into clean, readable lyric slides for the projector, the stage display and the livestream.

OpenMico is worship lyrics projection software that turns your song library into clean, readable lyric slides and sends them to every screen in the building. Enter or paste a song once, mark its verses, choruses and bridge, and you can run it live from the Schedule with a click, on the projector, the stage display and the livestream at the same time.

Lyrics projection should be the calmest part of a Sunday. The words need to be on screen a moment before the congregation sings them, easy to read from the back row, and consistent from week to week. That is what OpenMico's song tools are built around, and they are all included in the free core app.

How does lyrics projection work in OpenMico?

  1. Add songs to your library. Type or paste the lyrics and split them into sections such as Verse 1, Chorus and Bridge. Each song is stored on your computer, ready to reuse.
  2. Build the Schedule. Add the songs for the service to your Schedule, the running order that OpenMico saves continuously as you work. Scripture, slides, images and video can sit in the same list.
  3. Pick a theme. Choose or design a theme with your typography, background and layout. OpenMico applies it to every lyric slide, so there is no reformatting song by song.
  4. Check it in Preview. Select a section to see exactly how it will look before it goes out.
  5. Go Live with the band. Send each section live as it is sung. If the worship leader repeats the chorus or jumps to the bridge, select that section and it is on screen.

What makes lyric slides easy to read?

Sectioned lyrics become clean slides

Because songs are stored in sections, OpenMico produces tidy slides for each part of the song rather than one long block of text. Operators can see the structure of the song at a glance and follow the worship leader wherever they go.

A theme designer for consistent styling

The theme designer controls typography, backgrounds and layouts. Set a high-contrast theme for the main screen, and reuse it every week so the congregation always knows where to look. Our guide on how to project song lyrics in church covers practical choices such as line length and font size.

Different looks for different outputs

Each output can have its own theme and layout. The projector can show large centred lyrics over a background, while the livestream shows a lower third and the stage display shows plain text for the band.

Can lyrics go to the stage display and livestream too?

Yes. OpenMico supports multiple outputs from one Schedule:

  • Full-screen displays and projectors for the congregation.
  • Stage displays so singers and musicians can follow along.
  • Network/Browser Source output for OBS, served over HTTP, for adding lyrics to your stream.
  • NDI output for video on your network. It needs a compatible NDI runtime, and audio is routed separately.

Setting these up is covered in the displays, OBS and NDI guide, and our walkthrough on church livestream lyrics with OBS shows a typical layout.

What is included on each plan?

Everything you need for lyrics projection is free. Pro and Max add AI and cloud features that help elsewhere in the service. Billing is monthly or yearly; see the pricing page for current details.

Who is it for?

Worship leaders

Plan the set in the Schedule, and trust that repeats and changes of direction can be followed on screen. You lead; the operator keeps up.

Media volunteers

The layout is straightforward: Schedule on one side, Preview and Live in view. Newer volunteers can learn to run songs in a single rehearsal, and the continuously saved Schedule means a closed window does not lose the plan.

Pastors and small churches

A free app with no account and no internet requirement is a practical option for churches that run services on a single laptop, or in buildings with unreliable Wi-Fi.

What about song licensing?

Projecting copyrighted songs normally needs a licence, and streaming can need a separate one. OpenMico does not supply song lyrics or licences, so your church remains responsible for holding the right permissions. This is general information, not legal advice; check your CCLI and publisher terms.

Does it handle the rest of the service?

Songs sit alongside everything else in the same running order. You can present Bible passages from installed translations, import PowerPoint files (text, positions and pictures are kept; review imported slides because fonts and effects are rendered by OpenMico), and play images and video. If you want scripture to follow the sermon as it is preached, see AI Bible verse detection.

Frequently asked questions

Is OpenMico's lyrics projection free?

Yes. The song library, lyric slides, themes, Schedule and multiple outputs are all part of the free core app, which needs no account and works offline.

Does OpenMico detect which song is being sung?

No. Lyrics are advanced by the operator, who chooses the next section as the band plays. OpenMico's listening features are for spoken Bible references during the sermon, not for songs.

Do I need a CCLI licence to project song lyrics?

Most copyrighted worship songs need a licence to be projected, and streaming them can need a separate licence. This is general information, not legal advice, so check your CCLI and publisher terms.

Can I show lyrics on my livestream as well as the projector?

Yes. OpenMico can send lyrics to a Network/Browser Source output for OBS and to an NDI output alongside your projector, each with its own theme and layout.
